Tactical exercise checked the IRS units to rescue people from cable car
Only two days left to this planned exercise, when the real rescue intervention was needed. On 2nd November 2021, two days after the unfortunate fall of the cable car cabin leading to the Ještěd Mountain in the Liberec Region, a tactical exercise of the Integrated Rescue System (IRS) units of the Hradec Králové Region took place to check their readiness in case of rescue of persons from a damaged chairlift. The exercise was prepared and planned for a long time, and based on the intervention of the IRS units in rescuing people from the Ještěd cable car, it also proved to be very effective. In our conditions, we may encounter several types of cableways that have their own technical specifics, but rescue training is regularly carried out across all rescue services.

IRS Karlovy Vary Conference
The 7th IRS Conference in Karlovy Vary had the central theme “COVID-19”. The scientific committee chose this topic at the end of spring, when everyone believed that it would be a matter of passing on the findings of the already closed chapter. However, the event took place at a time when the epidemiological situation in the Czech Republic is once again speaking out loud and the daily incidence of this disease is still higher. During the meeting, it was possible to hear an evaluation of activities, the need for improvisation and flexibility, as well as suggestions for improving or changing the conditions for the operation of individual IRS units, which significantly contributed to solving the epidemiological situation in the country.

New methods of extinguishing Li-batteries and their testing
Today, lithium batteries are widespread in all industries. We use them in different devices; they are of different types and have different safety features. The most common are Li-on and Li-pol. These types have excellent properties in terms of capacity and other parameters, but pose a potential threat in terms of security. Charged batteries either explode or rapidly burnout when penetrated, shorted, or exposed to heat. From this point of view, the risk of fire increases and it is necessary to solve the extinguishing. Current approved manufacturers' procedures recommend extinguishing these sources of electricity by immersing them in large amounts of water. Manufacturers are not yet known to describe a more efficient and simpler procedure. For this reason, we in the Technical Institute of Fire Protection focused on new, more effective ways of extinguishing, testing and modernizing them.
